01 / The exhibition
Two ways
of seeing.
The European Cultural Centre and Tora and Art Foundation present Entre nous, a joint exhibition by Marusya Borisova-Sevastyanova and Alexey Kostromin, dedicated to the complex and fascinating territory of relationships between men and women.
Entre nous — “Between Us.” These two words encompass both intimacy and distance, trust and secrecy, the promise of openness and the possibility of leaving things unsaid. They evoke a space that emerges between two people, two gazes, two ways of seeing the world.
What happens between us when we look at one another? Do we truly see the other person, or merely our own idea of them? To what extent do our desires belong to us, and to what extent are they shaped by culture, memory, social expectations, and the images that surround us?

Their works neither illustrate a single narrative nor offer a universal formula for human relationships. On the contrary, they preserve the individuality of each perspective, allowing them to encounter one another within the shared space of the exhibition.
The artists are not a couple, and their creative positions have not emerged from a shared romantic history. It is precisely this independence that makes their dialogue particularly compelling. Rather than telling the story of a specific relationship, the exhibition brings together two artistic worlds, each offering its own way of seeing, feeling, and interpreting the other.

Images
in dialogue.
The visual intensity, sensuality, and expressive power of the works invite us to return to the immediate experience of art. An image does not necessarily demand an explanation. It can seduce, unsettle, evoke recognition, or provoke resistance. Echoing the aesthetic thinking of Susan Sontag, the exhibition encourages us not so much to search for hidden meanings as to allow images to act upon our senses.
Here, the masculine and the feminine are not treated as fixed categories or opposing forces. Instead, they become a starting point for reflecting on how we construct images of one another, how roles and expectations are formed, how attraction arises, and why even the deepest intimacy never entirely dissolves individuality.
At a time when relationships are increasingly discussed through the language of boundaries, identity, and social roles, Entre nous redirects our attention towards what cannot be fully described or regulated: a tone of voice, a glance, a gesture, a silence, a chance coincidence, or an unexpected moment of recognition.

The elusive space that emerges between us.
Presented in Paris during Art Basel Paris, the exhibition takes place at one of the most vibrant moments in the international art calendar, when the city becomes a meeting point for artistic encounters, discoveries, and cultural exchange.
Entre nous invites viewers to become participants in a dialogue that offers no definitive answers. After all, what matters most in human relationships often takes place not within each of us individually, but in the elusive space that emerges between us.
